Rachel Barker
Rachel joined EcoResolve in 2026, bringing a unique combination of scientific research expertise and practical ecological consulting experience. With a Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours) from the University of Newcastle and over three years of ecological consulting, she has developed strong technical skills across biodiversity assessment, vegetation mapping, habitat assessment, and threatened flora and fauna surveys.
Before joining EcoResolve, Rachel worked as an Ecologist with Wedgetail Project Consulting, where she managed ecological projects from field survey design through to technical reporting and approvals. She has extensive experience applying the NSW Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM), preparing Biodiversity Development Assessment Reports (BDARs), ecological assessments, Environmental Management Plans, and EPBC referrals, while coordinating field teams and delivering projects on time and within budget.
Prior to transitioning into ecology, Rachel spent five years as a Biomedical Scientist and PhD candidate at the Hunter Medical Research Institute and John Hunter Hospital. This background developed her analytical thinking, research skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage complex multidisciplinary projects—qualities that continue to strengthen her ecological consulting work.
Rachel has a particular passion for botanical assessment and ecological fieldwork and enjoys helping clients navigate environmental planning requirements with practical, science-based solutions. She is also eligible to enrol for BAM Accreditation in 2026, continuing her commitment to professional development and technical excellence.
When she's not in the field, you'll likely find Rachel sharing her enthusiasm for native plants and wildlife or mentoring colleagues in ecological survey techniques.
